U.S. Weekly Jobless Claims Increase More Than Expected

(RTTNews) - First-time claims for unemployment benefits showed a bigger than expected increase in the week ended August 13th, according to a report released by the Labor Department on Thursday, with claims climbing back above the key 400,000 level.

The report showed that initial jobless claims rose to 408,000 from the previous week's revised figure of 399,000. Economists had been expecting jobless claims to increase to 400,000 from the 395,000 originally reported for the previous week.
