Qadhafi Son Flees To Neighboring Niger

(RTTNews) - While the whereabouts of fugitive Libyan leader Col. Moammar Qadhafi remain unknown, one of his sons has arrived in neighboring Niger seeking asylum.
Niger's Justice Minister Amadou Morou said late on Sunday that Saadi Gaddafi, a former football player, and eight others in a convoy were heading toward Agadez in northern Niger and that they were being allowed in on "humanitarian grounds."
Media reports say that some members of the Qadhafi family have already fled to Algeria while several of his loyalists crossed over Libya's southern border with Niger recently.
Even though the Niger government had recognized Libya's Opposition National Transitional Council (NTC), it had not yet decided whether to allow 68-year-old Qadhafi to enter the country, Morou said. Meanwhile, NTC Chairman Mahmoud Jibril said an interim government would be formed in ten days. He was greeted by hundreds of cheering, flag-waving supporters on arrival in the Libyan capital Tripoli for the first time since rebels took over the city. Until now he was remaining in the eastern city of Benghazi where the NTC was headquartered.
Jibril also announced resumption of oil production in the strife-torn North African country, saying that more would be on stream in the near future.
Rebel forces now control most of the Libyan territory, including Tripoli. Supported by NATO air strikes, they resumed their attack on Bani Walid, a Qadhafi stronghold, on Sunday.
