Confidence among South African businesses improved marginally in February, with the relevant indicator reaching the highest level since June last year, data the South African Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SACCI) showed Wednesday.
The business confidence index increased to 99.5 in February after falling by 2 points to 97.1 in January. The February reading is the highest since June 2011, but is still 2.4 points below the level of February 2011.
The annualised impact of the real economy was more positive in February than in January 2012 with six of the seven sub-indices reflecting improved performance, SACCI said. However, continued labor protests and the rising cost of fuel remained factors constraining business optimism.
